The Importance of Color in the Healing Process and Hypnosis. How Hypnosis and Color Therapy work together as a healing tool.

Clinical studies have now provided scientific evidence that healing can be accelerated when the person’s environment is vibrant with colors from paintings, flowers, a room with a view, sunlight, etc. The findings have proven that patients recovered not only in a colorful vibrant environment but also needed less painkillers than those patients with bland (black and white) surroundings. For centuries we have known the sun’s rays have healing power, and as the rays pass through the spectrum gift us with the colors of healing. Instinctively as humans when we are ill, depressed, not at ease or unbalanced, we seek out the sun. Even if it’s only for a few moments that we sit with our face to the sky taking in the rays, we immediately are energized.

We have soaked in the colors from the sun and have balanced our bodies. It is becoming increasingly important in the health care sector to provide environments filled with color to create pleasing and relaxing spaces that reduce stress. Color can be used in many forms to help in the healing process of not only acute disease but also overall well-being. Dependent upon the environment one is in or the type of illness one has, certain colors are best suited for therapy.

For instance, if you have cancer and were in a cancer ward in the hospital, the color Red would be a good color to use as a focal point. Red is an energy color. It provides vitality and power. It’s the color used to eradicate cancer. It is not a color you would want to use, however, if you had high blood pressure, anxiety, or heightened excitability, as Red can cause agitation or aggression in persons with mental impairments.

When working with or tending to ill or acutely ill individuals, asking them what color they are more drawn to when they are imagining a color will give you a glimpse of where the imbalance is within their body. The color they choose, if you look up its properties, will tell you what needs to be healed. The color will be the color that is needed to bring their body back into balance.

The Role of Color in Hypnosis

In hypnosis, color is often used as a tool for deep relaxation and healing visualization. Many techniques involve guiding the client to imagine a ball of light — often beginning as a radiant white or golden sphere — that can be filled with any color they most need for balance. As the hypnotist directs, the light moves slowly through the body, touching each area that requires healing or restoration. This is a beautiful way hypnosis and color therapy work together.

For example, a client may visualize a blue light gently cooling areas of inflammation or calming an anxious mind. A green light might be imagined flowing through the chest, symbolizing balance, renewal, and heart-centered healing. A warm yellow light can be used to energize the body, strengthen confidence, or spark creativity. The subconscious mind responds powerfully to color imagery because it bypasses logic and communicates directly with our emotional and energetic states.

This type of hypnotic color work allows individuals not only to relax deeply but also to connect with their body’s own ability to heal. By repeatedly visualizing colors in specific forms — such as surrounding the body with protective light or filling the mind with calming hues — clients anchor these positive associations, reinforcing healing both during and after the session.

In this way, hypnosis combines the proven influence of color in our environment with the transformative power of the subconscious mind. Together, they provide a holistic pathway for restoring balance, reducing stress, and accelerating the healing process.
